I have worked with timber all my working life starting as a Saturday boy in a local timber yard and slowly working my way up to Head machinist. After many years there I joined my father’s building company and trained as a carpenter, during this time my love of furniture design and construction began. Finally in the early 90’s I set up on my own producing high-end furniture and designing a specialized hi-fi rack for a British hi-fi company, this rack sold worldwide and still sells to this day. My items are all made by hand in a small dusty workshop in a lovely quiet countryside setting which is a great environment for creative thinking. We are a small family team including Herbie the workshop dog who likes to ‘help’ whenever possible! Recently I set up a new side to my existing furniture business called…. Happy Hygge as I now feel I want to be able to let my more creative side flourish and I’m excited to share this with my audience. I will still be relying on my many years of work experience with timber and design but with more freedom to develop more unique and fun pieces. I am mostly using semi seasoned, or...air dried Oak this completely removes the extremely high energy used in the conventional drying process. Not only that but it gives these pieces ‘Life’ they will continue to dry out fully over time taking on their own wonderful character. This will take the form of natural cracks and twists much like those found in historical timber framed buildings still standing today. Your piece will evolve, some more than others, that’s the beauty of this organic material. I never want my items to feel sterile like some lifeless factory produced product I want them to have a natural tactile almost sculptural feel to them. So, give one a home, spread the Happy and begin your journey.
